Did Jack the Ripper once stalk the dark alleys of Rockhampton? Join our 1 hour evening tour through the streets and alleys and discover the darker side of the city. Learn about the ghosts that haunted Quay st, the city’s first recorded murder, the Rockhampton gold heist that created Sherlock Holmes and modern forensics and yes, learn the bizarre and true history of Jack the Ripper’s connection to Australia and Rockhampton.
Tours start at the Criterion Hotel on Quay St, head towards the post office on East St, then into the alleys until finishing out the front of the iconic Customs House.
arrive early, around 6:30 for a 7pm start
Please note
- all tours are between about an hour and leave from the Criterion Hotel foyer.
- please arrive 15 minutes before departure as we leave on time. If you arrive late, the attached video shows the route, so please look up the street and find your tour
- no message will be received once tour begins.
- the tour is outdoors so please wear insect repellent
- Dress for the weather. Hats and water on hot days a raincoat on wet days and walking footwear.
- At all times be aware of your surroundings. the tour does move alongside roads and streets
- Children are indeed welcome, but please be aware the tour is in the dark and we are talking about murders, beheadings and other spooky/adult orientated things.

The Historic Criterion Hotel is a great place to stay and grab a meal before your tour begins. The friendly staff and amazing architecture of the building will make you feel right at home.
NOTE: If you grab a meal before the tour, make sure you leave enough time to eat before the tour, the Cri can get very busy for dinner.
